The State Beach Series was created of the back of the Nutra-life Surf Ski Series in the summer of 2005.
The Beach Series, in its inaugural season, was managed jointly by Quantum Events Darcy Price, Takapuna Boat Club and supported by the North Shore City Council.
The mutual decision was to expand of the already successful paddle series into a three discipline event featuring a 5km beach run and a 1km ocean swim to make the most of the resources that Takapuna Beach has to offer.
The State Beach Series is a unique event. It has three main disciplines kicking off simultaneously for 16 Tuesday evenings over the summer months. Click here to view the race calendar. The three disciplines are a 1km ocean swim, a 5km beach run and a 5km surf ski paddle. A competitor can participate in any one of the chosen disciplines on race night but can swap and change to participate in all disciplines throughout the season*. It really makes staying fit and meeting people easy and enjoyable.
The State Beach Series attracts all types of athletes from the elite to the casual keep fit exerciser. There is a fun atmosphere and a lot of support for first timers.
Safety is a major priority for Quantum Events and ensures the success of the Beach Series. The ocean swim and surf ski on water safety is managed by Mairangi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club.
