The 5km Ski Paddle has been a core discipline of the Beach Series since it kicked off in 2005.
This event is for experienced ski paddlers seeking healthy competition and open water challenges.
Race at your own pace or measure yourself against some of the worlds best paddlers. All entrants receive their personal time which is displayed on the results page.

Get Prepared
If you are new to this sport consider trying the Novice Paddle first. This is a 3km Ski Paddle and lets you familiarise yourself with racing type conditions over a short distance. The course doesn't go quite so far out either so you may not have to compete with the conditions too.

Start Times
The 5km Ski Paddle will start at 6:20PM. There will be a compulsory race briefing held on the Reserve at 6:15PM
Course Maps
There are four 5km Paddle courses at the State Beach Series. The selection of these courses on the night are determined by the weather and ocean conditions.
Courses will not be explained at the race briefing - course maps will be available on the reserve and will be displayed closer to the start of the season on this webpage. A State Beach Series volunteer will be available to answer your questions about the course prior to the race briefing.

State Beach Series Surf Ironman
_A NEW State Beach Series Surf Ironman event will also be available this year where a competitors best 3 x Swims (1000m), 3 x Board Paddles and 3 x Ski Paddles (5km) throughout the season to qualify - more details soon.
_ Canoe Racing New Zealand - Top 3 Male & Female
_Canoe Racing New Zealand has teamed up with the State Beach Series to
find “CRNZ’s best short course paddlers”. As a discipline of CRNZ, surf
ski paddling was a founding sport and remains a strong supporter of the
State Beach Series.
Due to the large number of paddlers competing in this event and to add
an extra incentive CRNZ would like to recognise the top three paddlers
in the men’s and women’s categories. They will receive trophies with
first place in both the men’s and women’s categories also receiving a
$100 Point 5 voucher, presented at the prize giving function at the end
of the series.
We hope to see you at the beach, competing for CRNZ’s best short course paddler.
Race rules and regulations for the paddle events
All paddlers will receive their first high visibility vest free of charge at the first event you take part in - the vest is provide by State Insurance and is compulsory to wear at every State Beach Series event you take part in
5km Ski Paddlers, SUP, 3km Paddle will start on a first hooter at 6.20pm
All paddlers must start in knee depth water with both feet on the sand
Novice and Stand-Up paddlers must wear a safety leach attached to themselves and their craft. These are available to purchase from SUPNZ on the reserve.
To ensure a safer departure from Takapuna Beach. We ask all Novice Paddlers to position their craft to the very North end of the beach, Stand–Up Paddlers to right side of them and all Board Paddlers to the right side of them.
We ask all paddlers to be courteous to other beach users and the remaining runners taking part by removing boats and boards from the Beach as soon as possible after they finish
The race time cut off for all paddle events is 40minutes. After this time you will asked to boat an inflatable rescue craft to be brought ashore.
